James T. BorthwickJames T. Borthwick, 76, of Elyria, Ohio died Thursday August 28th at his home following a short illness.

He was born December 25, 1931 in Elyria and lived here his entire life.  He was a 1950 graduate of Elyria High School where he played varsity football.  He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran serving at Hamilton Air Force Base in California and he received the National Defense Service Medal.   He worked at U.S. Steel in Lorain for 38 years retiring in 1988.  Following his retirement, he enjoyed delivering flowers and gifts for Larry & Mary’s Floral Shop.  He was a member at the United Polish Club and attended the Washington Avenue Christian Church in Elyria.  Mr. Borthwick loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Diane (nee Smith) to whom he was married 52 years, one son, Scott (Linda) Borthwick of Elyria, Ohio, two daughters, Pamela (John) Henry of La Grange, Ohio, and Laurie (Art) Figueroa of Columbia, Missouri; and twelve grand children and eleven great grandchildren.  He is also survived by one sister Shirley (Charles) Beck of Mentor, Ohio. 

He was preceded in death by his son James F. Borthwick in 1996 and his parents, James T. and Elizabeth (nee Margaliso) Borthwick.

Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio on Monday, September 1st from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.  Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at the Washington Avenue Christian Church, 301 Washington Ave, Elyria, Ohio.  The Rev. Dr. Janet Long, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridgehill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township. The Elyria VFW Post 1079 will provide full military honors.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Washington Avenue Christian Church, 301 Washington Ave., Elyria, Ohio 44035.
