Dawn Pope (nee Finicle) died Saturday, November 4, after a brief illness. Born and raised in Elyria, Ohio, she graduated from Elyria High School in 1964 and attended Ohio University.
She retired from the City of Elyria, where she worked in the Auditor's office and then as Office Manager in the Utilities Department. After retirement she worked part-time for Murray Ridge and ThatSkincredible,
Dawn loved to travel and was able to experience many great places in the United States and abroad. She especially cherished her travels to Scotland where only a few short years ago discovered family. Her "happy place" was the island of St. Martin, where she spent weeks and even months at a time for the past 16 of 18 winters with family and friends.
Dawn enjoyed gambling, especially in Las Vegas, golf, she was member of Oberlin golf club for 13 years, and Indy Car racing. She was thrilled by a ride around Mid-Ohio Sports car course in a two seated Indy Car with Mario Andretti driving. She loved the Browns and Cavs and Ohio State football.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Tim "Elvis" Pope, two daughters, Robin (Robert) Caruso of Wickliffe and Terri Stephenson of South Amherst as well as two grand-daughters, Grace and Emma Stephenson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel Finicle, her sister Diane Kramer, and her beloved dog, Torrie.
Visitation will be Tuesday, November 8, at the Reichlin-Roberts Funeral Home in Elyria from 4PM to 8PM. Closing prayers will be in the funeral home at 11:30 AM followed by a mass of the celebration of her life at Noon Wednesday, November 9, at St. Mary's in Elyria with Rev. Charlie Diedrick and Rev. Tom Hagedorn concelebrating.
The family thanks all our friends and well-wishers for their love and support through her illness and death.

You were not only a great friend but a true and loving lady. You and Tim helped me with my son's wedding last year and we had so much fun doing so. I loved having you work for me because we worked together as a unit. You were the best and I loved you more than you will ever know. You were my rock and you always had my back. I will miss you beyond words.

John and I are heartbroken, only learning of her illness a few weeks ago. She and Tim were planning what she called \\\"a long over due\\\" trip to St. Thomas to spend time with us. I thought I had that time left. Dawn, you are an amazing soul! My life is richer that you were a part of it. Your loved one will always have happy memories of you! Rest in peace my friend. Love you!

We met Dawn at a time of great struggle and sorrow when our sister-in-law Paula Currier suffered with cancer and died in the summer of 2014. Both she and Tim were incredible support to both her and her husband Ben. We will never forget their ongoing care for Ben in the time since and most recently Dawn's assistance in helping our new sister-in-law, Donna, with her wedding preparation. Life takes strange turns when we least expect it but we know that the Lord is always with us through joy and sorrow. There is no question in our minds that when Dawn took her last breath the other day that she opened her eyes to the Lord and heard the six most important words that anyone of us want to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant." We have been blessed to know Dawn.

I was so sorry to hear of Dawn's passing on facebook. I will always remember Dawn as one of my favorite coworkers at Springbrook. Our travels together were so much fun. Although we hadn't stayed in close contact after Dawn left, it was always nice to see her posts. My condolences to the family. She was a wonderful woman and sincerely one of the nicest ladies I knew. She will be sorely missed.
