Henry (Hank) Engler, 86 years old of Elyria passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at O'Neill Healthcare in Bay Village, Ohio.
Henry was born on October 24, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York and was an area resident for the past 60 years. He was a United States Air Force veteran serving during the Korean War and enjoyed a 35 year career with the Federal Aviation Administration. In his younger years, he played baseball with the Minor Leagues in New York and remained an avid baseball fan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 12 and the Legion's Golf League, the Korean War Veterans Association, and AMVETS Post 32 where he was a life member. He learned to ski while in the Air Force and taught many others to ski and love the sport as well. Henry will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted family man and caring friend. He was always curious, loved teaching what he learned to others and instilled the love of learning in all of us. In his later years Henry dedicated all of his time and energy to caring for his wife Dorothy. He supported and loved her unconditionally. Their 61 year marriage was a true love story.
He is survived by daughters, Patricia (Mike) Groomes of Elyria and Geralyn (David) Hoffman of Worthington, Ohio; a brother, Edward Klarich of New York; eight grandchildren, Anne Marie (Jon), Becky (Chad), Michael (Lindsey), Colleen, Megan (Pawel), Brett, Tony, and Dalyn; and five great granddaughters, Mackenzie, Delaney, Morgan, Annabelle, and Mila. Mr. Engler was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (nee Klarich) in 2016; one son Jeffery in 1958; one brother, Victor and sisters, Ruth Becker and Theresa Hartmann.
Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio 44035 on Sunday, March 12, 2017 from 3 to 7 P.M. Closing prayers will be at the funeral home on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 10:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Church, 320 Middle Avenue, Elyria, Ohio at 11:00 A.M. with the Reverend Father Charles Diedrick, Pastor, officiating. Burial, with full military honorsprovided by the VFW, Post 1079, will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio.

Hank and I were friends at the Cleveland FAA in Oberlin from 1964 until 1986. Hank was liked very much by all who knew him. He will be missed by all.

Henry was my crew chief in the FAA in the 60\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s. He also gave me my first skiing leson. He was a good man and teacher.
