Jessie I. Joviak (nee Battista), age 94 of Elyria passed away Tuesday March 21, 2017 at the Wesleyan Village following a long illness. Jessie was born September 29, 1922 in New Castle, Pa. Elyria has been her home for most of her life.
Jessie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Elyria. She was a graduate of Elyria High School and the St. Francis Nursing School in New Castle. She was employed at the Elyria Health Department as the Nursing Director for many years and retired as the acting Elyria Health Commissioner in 1984. She was a member of the Elyria Women's Club. Jessie was honored as a Distinguished Alumni of Elyria High School in 2010.
She is survived by one daughter Julianne Christine Armstrong of Houston, Texas; two sons John Christopher Joviak of St. Petersburg, Fla., James Craig (Mary) Joviak of Tucson, Arizona; five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne S. Joviak in 2007; two sisters, Stella Mae Gilmore, Margaret Ellen Powers; and by her parents Philip and Mary Christine (nee Cuscino) DiBattista.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 9685 E. River Rd, Elyria, Ohio. Rev. Robert F. Weldon, Sr. pastor will officiate.
Memorial contributions in Jessie's memory may be given the charity of the donor's choice.
Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland St., Elyria is in charge of arrangements.

To my cousins Julie, John and Jim; I'm so sorry for the loss of your Mom my Aunt Jessie. We all have many great memories of all of us together at Gem Beach. The three sisters are together again. She is missed along with my Mom and Aunt Stella.
