William "Jay" Kovacs Print E-mail

Jay KovacsWilliam "Jay" Kovacs, 79 years old of Elyria, Ohio passed away on November 9, 2017 at his home. He was born on November 4, 1938 in San Francisco and made his home here for most of his life.

He attended Elyria Catholic High School with the class of 1957 and was employed by Windstream (formerly Alltel) as a Special Circuits Technician for 42 years. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoors man, originally a member of Columbia Game Club and currently a member of the Pinecrest Shooting Preserve. He enjoyed all outdoor activities with his grandchildren and family and loved to visit the cabin in Pennsylvania. He was the assistant Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop # 133 and attended the Boy Scout Jamboree. After retirement he traveled to Pennsylvania, Arizona, Alaska, Virginia and Grand Cayman. Proud of his Hungarian heritage he loved to cook, making his own sausage and wine. Known as the life of the party, he especially loved spending time with family and grandchildren.

Surviving his are his wife of 57 years, Mary Ann (nee Machak); his son, William "Jack" (Cindy) of Elyria; his daughters, Melissa (Tim) Reznik of Columbia Station, Susan (Jim) Zemek of Bay Village; and his grandchildren, Ian Kovacs, Rachel and Justin Reznik, and Ethan Zemek. He is also survived by a sister Marguerite Menner of North Ridgeville; a brother John (Kathy) Eppich of Buckeye, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Mary Holland; his step father, John Eppich; and his parents, William J. Kovacs and Mary E. Kovacs Eppich

Friends will be received at the Reichlin Roberts Funeral Home, 327 Cleveland Street, Elyria, Ohio on Monday, November 13, 2017 from 4 to 7 P.M. Closing Prayers will be in the funeral home on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar Street, Elyria, Ohio with the Reverend Father Frank P. Kosem, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio.

Mary Ann and family: I am so sorry for your loss. Jay and my Dad worked together for many years and had a close friendship. My Dad always share fond memories of Jay. He was a great man, you are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless.
